Development Within Little Gems Day Nursery
At Little Gems we continue to work closely with Lewisham Early Years Department to maintain the highest standard of quality care for your child. This sometimes involves ongoing projects that benefit both children and parents.
We are registered with OFSTED and our inspection reports are available to view. Click Here
Our team work to a programme within the guidelines and follows the birth to 5 years framework. This covers the seven areas of learning and development which incorporates the four themes of the revised Early Years Foundation Framework.
Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.
Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
Children develop and learn in different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and interconnected.
At Little Gems we work in partnership with parents, carers and other agencies to promote healthy choices, to protect children from harm, support and encourage opportunities for learning, promote positive behaviour and encourage well-being.
The Governments' aim is to support every child/young person from birth to 19 years whatever their background or circumstances. To achieve the 5 outcomes, below, Little Gems Day Nursery work with "The Every Child Matters Framework"
• Stay Safe
• Be Healthy
• Enjoy And Achieve
• Make A Positive Contribution
• Achieve Economic Well-Being
Your child will have their own key worker who will offer them security and reassurance continually, and help your child to develop to their full potential. Your child will have their own development file which will monitor their progress and development whilst at Little Gems. These files record development in the seven areas of learning and will contain examples of children's work, photographs, observations and evaluations and will be available for you to view at any time.
The files are updated each term where parents will also be invited in to discuss their child’s progress. The profiles are given to parents when their child leaves the nursery. As all the children are individuals they will develop at different rates depending on their age. Our staff fully understand this and takes it into account when planning activities and experiences within and outside of the nursery.
When your child is ready to start school the development file helps to provide the school with vital information which will support your child with their next stage of learning.
Little Gems is 1 of 20 nurseries chosen to take part in the ECAT programme to extend children's language & communication development.
Throughout this programme regular sessions took place within the nursery to extend parents knowledge on early language development.
Being a part of the ECAT programme helped to raise children's achievement in early language development, increase staffs/parents knowledge of how to interact and talk to children and improve their language development.
Our ELLP regularly checks how our children are developing & provides support to families and staff in designing, planning and leading language activities.
We have a storysack leading library located in the main building hallway. Storysacks are for use in the nursery whilst also being available to borrow for home use.
Each storysack contains a storybook, information text, toys or props to enhance the story and a related game to play with your child.
There is a parent guide in each storysack that gives you ideas of how to use the story props.
We have over 40 sacks for you to choose from, including storysack that are designed for children who are learning English as an additional language.
